Lawns

Real or Artificial – we can provide both.

Artificial is ideal for dog owners, families with young children and those with minimal time or interest for maintenance. If you require more information before making a choice between real and artificial we have samples of the various ranges in artificial lawn, and have photos of previous jobs completed.

If you prefer a real lawn, turf if the more popular choice, but we also offer seeding.

Thorough site preparation is the key to establishing a successful new lawn. Although this may be time-consuming and expensive, in the long run it is easier and cheaper to prepare the site properly at the outset than to try and alleviate problems later. The general principles apply to both turf and seed, but decisions on drainage, soil improvement and irrigation should depend on the individual site.

Seeding a lawn is usually the cheapest method, but it takes up to a year before the lawn can be subjected to heavy wear. Turfing, although more expensive gives an immediate visual effect and the lawn may be used fully within two or three months, with light to moderate usage in the early stages; it is advisable to have turf if you have pets that may disturb grass seedlings before they are established.

Once turf has been laid, it is important not to allow the turf to dry out before the grass has rooted through. It is essential to water the turf thoroughly so that it reaches the soil below, otherwise the turves may shrink in dry or hot weather, leaving large gaps between them. Because of the time involved to establish, it is advisable to have turf laid outside of the summer months.

After seed has been sown, germination will occur in one to two weeks, we will protect the site from birds by covering it with netting until the seedlings have established. The site must be watered regularly, since young grasses are very susceptible to drought. Young grasses are particularly vulnerable to damage by wear, so try to use the lawn as little as possible during its first full growing season.

To assist you with the important watering aftercare, we temporarily leave behind a water computer and sprinkler to ensure adequate watering - an outside tap would be required.

Maintenance
Once the lawn is well established, regular maintenance is needed to ensure its health and attractive appearance. The amount required depends on the lawn's size and type of usage. In general, the most frequent tasks are mowing and watering, but annual maintenance may also include such things as fertilising, top-dressing, aerating and, where necessary, controlling moss, weeds , pests and diseases.
This is a service which we can also assist with.
